This account of the history of the MAY family is believed to have been written by Mrs May in 1916, with additions in 1917 and, probably, 1930.

The original manuscript is in the possession of Major J. T. Cooper, formerly of Henley-on-Thames and now of Sydney, Australia. This copy has been taken from two typescripts of the original, neither of which is complete in itself - it is apparent that when the typescripts were made at least two passages were left out. No attempt has been made to edit or annotate the typescript - formerly in the possession of Mrs Joan Messenger (née May) of Sonning-on-Thames
